GRASSROOTS ALERT:
What School Board Members &
Education Advocates Can Do
The National School Boards Association has launched an exciting advocacy campaign called the “Pledge to America’s Schoolchildren.” The Pledge reflects NSBA’s legislative agenda for the upcoming 110th Congress.
Your grassroots influence is needed to urge each Member of Congress to sign the Pledge.
- Please refer to your Campaign materials that were forwarded in the mail, which include a copy of the actual Pledge, a Campaign brochure, and a special message from 2006-07 NSBA President Jane Gallucci and Executive Director Anne L. Bryant. The campaign is scheduled to continue beyond NSBA’s upcoming Federal Relations Network (FRN) conference this January.
- Contact your Senators and Representatives, and urge them to sign the “Pledge to America’s Schoolchildren.” You can call the Pledge Campaign hotline at 866-521-5121 for direct access to Capitol Hill offices. Please explain the five general principles of the Pledge and provide examples of how the legislative goals will benefit your local school district. Also note that the Pledge represents the bipartisan goals of NSBA’s membership of more than 95,000 local school board members.
- Ask your Members of Congress to forward signed copies of the Pledge to NSBA via fax at (703) 548-5613. They can also contact us via email for access to sign the Pledge through the website.
- Thank your Members of Congress for their support of public education in your district. Continue to use the Pledge as a point of reference to establish a rapport with Members and their staff and/or continue discussions about legislative priorities for education in the 110th Congress.
NSBA will continue to keep you updated as the Campaign progresses. Visit the Pledge Campaign website for additional news and information and to see which Members of Congress have signed the Pledge.
Thank you for your support of our “Pledge to America’s Schoolchildren.” We’re off to a great start, and hope to continue the success in getting Congress to actively support our legislative priorities.
