Kentucky School Boards Association honors Congressman Ben Chandler

(Washington, DC)  NSBA Director Ed Massey recently presented Congressman Ben Chandler (D-KY) with a plaque of appreciation for his leadership to champion federal support for education programs. Congressman Chandler is the first member of Congress from Kentucky to sign the "Pledge to America’s Schoolchildren." They are pictured outside of the House of Representatives’ chamber in the Capitol where Congressman Chandler was advocating legislation that he introduced to provide funding for school repairs and modernization. The House recently passed the “21st Century Green High-Performing Public School Facilities Act” (H.R. 3021), which is now awaiting the Senate’s consideration. Mr. Massey is Chairman of the Boone County Schools Board of Education in Kentucky and is also President of the Kentucky School Boards Association. |

New NSBA President Continues Efforts to Support the Pledge’s Goals

 “NSBA’s ‘Pledge to America’s Schoolchildren’ has energized school boards across the nation and their respective members of Congress,” said Norm Wooten, a school board member from Kodiak, Alaska, who was elected as NSBA’s 60th President in April. “This year I intend to work on engaging our communities to move all of us toward the belief that children are everyone’s priority.” Since January, more than one-third of the members of the 110th Congress have signed the “Pledge to America’s Schoolchildren” to affirm their commitment to the students and school systems in their states and districts. The Pledge consists of five bipartisan principles to:
